about us

On February 20, 2004 Newton Officer’s Ricardo Lizarraga and Officer Joel Ruiz responded to a domestic violence radio call. During the radio call both Officers were involved in a shooting with the suspect. Officer Ricardo Lizarraga was killed in the line of duty.

Sgt Jack Richardson, Angie Maciel, Detective Kathy Amos and Joyce Lizarraga along with the men and women of Newton Station organized the first Officer Ricardo Lizarraga Memorial Ride to honor him and other fellow fallen officers. The name of the ride has changed but still carries on the legacy. The Newton Street Memorial Ride over the past years has assisted his family and provided a scholarship fund to assist students from Hamilton High School.

Sgt Jack Richardson has since retired from the job and has passed on the tradition of the Newton Street Memorial Ride to Officers Tony Saenz, Willie Batista, George Cervantes and the continued support of officers Ruben Garcia and Tony Diaz. Newton Street has a strong tradition and camaraderie that bonds officers. We have received support with no hesitation and would like to thank all of the officers that have helped make this ride possible.
